The department was established in 2016 with the aim role to reach out the public through training and consultancy services. The department is responsible for conducting Studies, Research and Consultancy in the following fields;
- Library Science
- Records and archives management
- Knowledge and Information Management (KIM)
- Management of Information Systems (MIS)
- ICT application in different fields
In view of this, DIRS has the following functions:
i. Provide library user education and information literacy in the form of
- Tutorials and orientation sessions
- Short courses
- Workshop training and seminars
ii. Host and run long term training programmes
